Good morning! And a good morning it is! Five Spartans have received Mountain West honors so far this week, find out more about them below.

What are we pouring into today’s Brew?

🏀 Back-to-back
🏈 Honoring a legend
⚔️ And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Back-To-Back. We’re starting to sound like a broken record when we tell you that Jyah LoVett is this week’s Mountain West Freshman of the Week, but she just keeps winning! She earned her second-straight conference honor this week, and third overall. At No. 25 UNLV, she tallied a career-high 26 points, going 4-of-5 from the three-point line. Against Nevada, she scored 16 points and added three assists. She ranks third in the Mountain West in scoring, averaging 22.25 points per game in conference play. She also leads the league in three-point percentage during conference play, at 62.5%.

🔼 Fantastic Four. Four Spartan gymnasts earned Mountain West honors again this week! Lauren Macpherson was named the Mountain West Gymnast of the Week for the second-straight week and Co-Beam Specialist. Marissa Ashton earned Freshman of the Week honors for the second-straight week as well. Jaudai Lopes was named Vault Specialist of the Week after winning the vault title with a season-high 9.875 score. Katherine Weyhmiller joined Lauren as a Co-Beam Specialist of the Week.

🔼 Remembering A Legend. Former San José State football legend Claude Gilbert passed away earlier this month at the age of 91. He dedicated much of his life to San José State as a player, captain, assistant, and head coach. He served as the Spartans head coach from 1984-89 and had two 10-2 seasons and won Big West titles in 1986 and ‘87. His Spartans beat Miami (OH) in the 1986 California Bowl. In 2006, he was inducted in the CEFCU Stadium Ring of Honor. Currently, he ranks second all-time in SJSU wins.
