Good morning! Spring is officially here and the Spartans had their first spring football practice yesterday, check out some of the scenes:

📈 STOCK UP

🔼  Fierce Finish. Three of the final weekly Mountain West Gymnastics honors go to Spartans Lauren Macpherson and Mia Nelson! Lauren was named Beam Specialist of the Week after scoring a 9.925. It’s her 11th conference honor this season and fourth beam honor. Mia was named Floor Specialist and Freshman of the Week. She won her second floor title of the season with a career-best 9.950. She also posted the highest score by a freshman last week. The Spartans will compete at the inaugural Mountain West Championships this Saturday.

🔼 Booked & Busy. The women’s tennis team will host four matches in seven days, starting today! They’ll host Hawaii at noon today and New Mexico on Friday at 11 am. Four Spartans have earned Mountain West weekly awards this season, leading the conference.

🔼 Single Shot. The Spartans lone run last night came from Jeriah Lewis’ first home run of the season. He launched the long ball on the first pitch he saw in the third inning. Dalton Bowling and Nik Trapani hit doubles to grab some extra bases. The Spartans fell to Santa Clara, 7-1. They’ll get back into conference play this weekend as they head to New Mexico.

🔼 Showin’ Off. Mark your calendars because San José State’s 2024 Pro Day is Friday! Chevan Cordeiro, Andrew Gonneville, Andrew Jenkins, Tre Jenkins, Jay Kakiva, Jaime Navarro, Kairee Robinson, Matthew Tago, Alex Weir, Chase Williams, and Kenyon Reed will be showing off their skills. Pro Day workouts and testing are open to the public and media at CEFCU Stadium, beginning at 9:30 am.

The Western Intercollegiate, one of the premiere college golf tournaments in the country, is back for its 77th edition, April 15-17, at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz. Six of the top 10 golfers in the world are Western Alum, including #1 Scott Scheffler. 

There are numerous volunteer opportunities, including:

• Walking Scorer

• Spotter for Golf Channel

• Event Staff / Operations Crew

Bill Walsh was a Spartan quarterback before going on to coach the San Francisco 49ers to three Super Bowl victories! Dick Vermeil was also a Spartan quarterback who went on to win a Super Bowl as head coach of the St. Louis Rams.
