📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Best Of 2023. We saw Mountain West Championships, a WCC Tournament Championship, an NCAA Championship Runner-Up, All-Americans, NCAA Regional Appearances, broken records, professional draft picks, and much more — 2023 was a good one in San José.
🔼 Cardenas Full Card. Three Spartans scored double-digits in last night’s game at Wyoming. Alvaro Cardenas led the group with 21 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and a steal. He went 4-for-5 from three-point range. Tibet Görener made three three-balls and had 16 points. He’s 13 three’s away from tying the career record. Adrama Diongue recorded a career-high four blocks. The final score was 73-75, thanks to a Wyoming shot at the buzzer.
🔼 Let’s Get It Started. The women’s basketball team starts Mountain West play tonight as they host Fresno State. They finished the non-conference portion of the schedule with five wins, the most since the 2019-20 season. Jyah LoVett has had eight games scoring double digits. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm. If you can’t make it out, you can watch live on NBC Sports Bay Area or listen on 90.5 FM KSJS.
🔼 Winner, Winner. Spartan men’s golfer Avinash Iyer won the Grapevine Amateur over the break! The Spartan finished 13-under-par with a bogey-free 64 in the final round to win by four shots. He beat out 101 other amateur golfers in the three-day tournament.
⚔️ ONE BIG THING
Running backs coach and recruiting coordinator Alonzo Carter was named a finalist for the 2023 FootballScoop Running Backs Coach of the Year! He coached a group that rushed for 150 yards or more in nine games this season. The Spartans ran for 313 yards against No. 25 Fresno State. The team had a total of 2,393 rushing yards this season, the most for the Spartans in this century. Kairee Robinson led the way, finishing with the single-season record of 18 touchdowns.
