📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Eyes On 32. The Doak Walker Award watch list was announced this week and Spartan running back Kairee Robinson made the cut! The award is presented to the top running back in college football. Kairee was named Second Team Preseason Athlon Sports All-Mountain West Offense and Third Team Phil Steele’s Preseason Mountain West Team earlier this summer. Last season, he was fifth in the conference with 10 rushing touchdowns and ran for a career-high 752 yards. The committee will name ten semifinalists in November.

🔼 Let’s Get It Started. The San José State women’s soccer team will get things started this weekend with a little chip on their shoulder. After winning the Mountain West regular-season title and the Mountain West Championship and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament last season, the Spartans were selected to finish fourth in the conference by coaches. The Spartans received three first-place votes in the Mountain West Preseason Coaches’ Poll. They’ll play an exhibition game on Saturday at Cal Poly at 6:00pm PT before kicking off the regular season on Thursday.

🔼 Fun In The Sun. After winning the Mountain West Championship and earning an NCAA Tournament bid, seven Spartan baseball players went to play summer ball in four different leagues. Theo Hardy has been playing in the famous Cape Cod Baseball League where he hit a game-winning homer in the playoffs. He played the first half of the summer in the California Collegiate League and was named an All-Star. Hunter Dorraugh, Robert Hamchuk, Gary Hall played for the same team in the California Collegiate League where they won the CCL title while Cade Cushing was on a different team in the same league. Kimo Fukofuka was named an All-Star in the Northwoods league and Neil Jansen won the Independence League while finishing third on the team in home runs.

⚔️ ONE BIG THING

Better Than The Rest. Former Spartan Charles McAdoo has had no trouble in the pro’s. The Pirates’ 13th round pick went 6-for-6 with two home runs, four runs scored, and eight RBIs on Wednesday with the Bradenton Marauders — the Pirates single-A affiliate. Through four games, he has hit .688 with a 1.862 OPS.
