🔼 Grand Opening. What a way to open the year!
The SJSU men’s soccer squad earned a thrilling 2-0 victory on opening night of the 2025 season, dropping visiting Cal Poly in front of a raucous home crowd at Spartan Soccer Complex. It marked the first win over Cal Poly since 2002.
Angel Fernandez scored the go ahead goal and Edgar Guerra recorded a five save shutout to lead the way.

🔼 Always Remember Your First. There’s many more of those to come in the Sonia Curvelo era.
With the clock winding down, Charlotte Memoly delivered a clutch game-winning goal for the SJSU women’s soccer team to lift the Spartans to a 2-1 road win over UC Davis on Thursday night.
Paige Pindea-Aliamus opened the scoring early in the match off an assist from Sophia Martel.
🔼 Hometown Pride. For the first time since 2021, a SJSU Spartan was named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List.
Earlier this week, SJSU wideout Leland Smith was named to the prestigious list, becoming the first Spartan to earn the distinction since Nick Starkel (2020, 2021).
Smith, a native of Houston, Texas, is entering his first season with the Spartans after transferring from Purdue. In 12 games with the Boilermakers last season, he recorded six receptions for 72 yards and two touchdowns.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award honors the top offensive player in Division I football from Texas who also exhibits the integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity exemplified by the award’s namesake, Hall of Famer Earl Campbell.

🔼 Save The Dates. Pull out your iPhone calendars everyone, we’ve got dates to plug in!
The Spartans will play 21 matches in 2025, including nine home games and three exhibitions. The Spartans will open the regular season on Aug. 29 against UC Santa Barbara in San Diego, Calif. as a part of the Triton Invitational.
⏱️ COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 7️⃣ DAYS
That’s right, we are just 7️⃣ days away from the return of Spartan football!

A steady presence over the past four seasons on the SJSU defense has been Martinez, Calif., native Jalen Apalit-Williams.
Apalit-Williams has been a leader, on and off the field, ever since he stepped on campus and his work in the community was recognized last season as he was a nominee for the All-State AFCA Good Works Team.
On the field, he has played in 24 games over the past two seasons, racking up 26 tackles, a sack and his first career INT last fall for the Spartans.

Thursday night’s victory marked the first opening night victory for SJSU men’s soccer since 2022.
