🔼 Helping Hands. The Spartans are still a few months away from dishing out assists on the court.
But this week, they dished out assists in the local community!
🔼 All Tied Up. For the fourth time in six matches, the SJSU men’s soccer squad held their opponent scoreless.
On Thursday night, Arnold Matshazi and Daniel Fregoso Bautista each tallied two shots on net, but couldn’t slip one through as the Spartans earned a 0-0 draw with unbeaten CSUN.
The Spartans dictated much of the play, outshooting the Matadors 15-8, but were unable to find the back of the net despite several close chances. Defensively, San José State stayed organized throughout the 90 minutes.
Goalkeeper Edgar Guerra recorded two saves to post his fourth clean sheet of the season. The backline, anchored by Dane Pendleton, Ruben Flores-Thomas, Niklas Dossmann, and Javier Lopez, limited CSUN to just two shots on target.
🔼 Strong Start. The SJSU men’s golf squad got their season off to a strong start with a sixth-place finish at the Palouse Collegiate, hosted by Washington State.
Avinash Iyer fired an eight-under, while Ivan Barahona carded a second-under to pace the Spartans at the event.
Iyer tied for ninth overall after shooting an even-par 70 in the final round, highlighted by a team-best five birdies. Barahona delivered the Spartans’ low round of the day with a 68 (-3), collecting four birdies en route to a tie for 15th place.

🔼 On The Grind. It may be the bye week for the SJSU football squad, but the work has ratcheted up for the Spartans as they prepare to return home next Saturday, Sept. 20th.
SJSU won’t leave the state for another month as the Spartans are set to host Idaho (9/20), travel to Stanford (9/27) and back home for New Mexico (10/3) to kickoff conference play.
