Spartan Brew 4/1: Speedy Spartans

🔼  Speedy Spartans. The track & field team had a solid showing at the Stanford Invitational over the weekend. Jaden Smith started things off winning the men’s 200m and placing third in the 400m. Jeremiah Walker was right behind him, finishing second in the 200m. On day two, Malachi Snow won the 110m hurdles and the 100m dash. Demaris Waters took second in the hurdles. Morgan Little took second in the 100m dash on the women’s side with a lifetime PR. Sky Hagan placed third in the women’s 100m hurdles. Ar’rieya Harper placed fourth in the triple jump. 🔼  Back-To-Back Jacks. The Spartan softball team took down Boise State on Saturday, 6-4. The Spartans were scoreless in the fifth inning before Reina Zermeno and Ashley Rico hit back-to-back home runs! Reina’s homer scored three runs. Ahmiya Noriega had a two RBI double to take the Spartan lead in extra innings. Mia Reynolds was strong in the circle, throwing three strikeouts in four innings. They’ll be back in action on Wednesday when they host Fresno State for a doubleheader.

🔼 Fire Away. The men’s golf team finished The Goodwin at TPC Hardin Park in 13th out of 31 teams. Zubair Firdaus led the team with a 210 to finish 11th-individually. Caleb Shelter tied for 23rd at 212. The team will have a bit of a break before hosting the 77th Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz from April 15-17.

🔼 Earned It. Two Spartan football players earned scholarships during practice on Friday. Joe Harbert and John Norwood learned the news when they thought they’d be running a drill against each other. Check out the moment and the phone calls to their parents above!

Fifteen men’s water polo players from 2023 were named national All-Academic award winners by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches. Since 2015, 48 Spartans have earned 83 ACWPC All-Academic honors. Alexey Poletaev, Bence Szabo, Connor Macmillan, Mark Kis, Manteja Bosic, and Mitchell Keightley earned outstanding honors, having a 3.71-4.0 GPA.
