🔼 Sitting On Top. The Mountain West Championship for the women’s golf team started yesterday and the Spartans sit at the top! The team shot 8-under par and sit six strokes ahead of the second-place team. Lucia Lopez Ortega leads the field individually and Kajsa Arwefjäll sits behind her in second. They continue with round two today at 8:30 am. Hear from Coach Dormann after a phenomenal first round.

🏆 Six Spartans, current and former, were named to the Mountain West 25th Season Team! Those golfers include Kajsa Arwefäll, Lucia Lopez Ortega, My Leander, Abegail Arevalo, Natasha Andrea Oon, and Antonia Malate.

🔼 The Snow Man. Track & field runner Malachi Snow earned Mountain West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week and Freshman of the Week after his performances at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational last weekend. The freshman won the men’s 110m Hurdle Invite with a 13.33 time, the current No. 1 in the nation and in the school history book. He also ran a leg in the 4×100 relay.

🔼 Grand Finale. San José State is hosting the 77th Western Intercollegiate presented by Titleist this week on the Golf Channel. Xuan Luo is tied for third individually at 2-under par. Ivan Barahona is tied for 10th individually, while the Spartans are tied for ninth as a team. The final round for the Spartans will start at 9:28 am this morning and the Golf Channel will have live coverage at 4 pm.

🔼 Bigger Than The Game. April’s recipient of the CalHope Courage Award is Myron Amey Jr. The award is presented to a student-athlete each month who has had to overcome the stress, anxiety, and mental trauma associated with personal hardships and adversity. MJ didn’t receive one DI scholarship offer despite leading his team in points his senior year of high school. He worked hard to afford a trip to a college showcase and earn a scholarship. After a season-ending injury in 2022-23, he dove into music and attended the Black Student-Athlete Summit to build connections outside of basketball. His focus on his mental and physical health paid off, because he led the Spartans in scoring this past season and was an honorable mention for the Mountain West All-Conference Team.
